What it is
You research local markets for small businesses that cannot afford a big firm. Using Google Trends, government data from places like data.gov.in, industry association reports and competitors' own websites, you write short reports on competitors, customer habits and demand in a city or niche. You start with a free first call and a small pilot project, then charge per report, with monthly updates for clients who want them. Local retail and tech startups are the starting niches, in big cities and tier-II towns.
The problem it solves
A shop owner deciding where to open, or a startup choosing a price, usually has to guess. A research firm costs more than they can spend, and public data is scattered and hard to read. They need a clear, short answer about customers and competitors in their own city.
Who it suits
- Analysts, MBA graduates or consultants who like digging into data
- Freelancers who write clearly and explain numbers simply
- People who want a service business with almost no cost
How it makes money
- Project reports, starting around ₹8,000 to ₹12,000
- Monthly retainers for regular updates
- Paid workshops and webinars on market research
How to test it this month
- 1Choose one niche, such as cafes in your city, and write a two-page sample report on competitors, prices and demand.
- 2Offer ten owners in that niche a free 30-minute call plus a one-page summary of what you found about their local market.
- 3Turn the best pilot into a paid report at the low end of your range and ask the owner for a short written testimonial.
What to watch out for
Free data is thin, and AI tools make up facts, so every number in a report needs a source you can name. Clients pay for answers to their exact question, which often needs surveys or visits that cost time. Free pilots can eat weeks without paying. Survey data about people has privacy duties, and copying paid reports breaks copyright.
Costs and prices are estimates from our plan, not results from a real business. Nothing here promises income.
